We’re leaving Mont-Laurier. The conductor shouts loud and clear,
“All aboard! The train’s ready, so clear off the track.”
Ms. Raccoon and her kits, Mr. Turkey, Whitetail Deer,
Take your seats! Off we steam, chug-clickety-clack.

This playful and vibrantly coloured children’s book invites young and old for a ride in the beautiful Laurentians of Quebec, showing them its fauna and historical heritage. Leaving Mont-Laurier, the train welcomes animals aboard from station to station as we follow their adventures until they arrive in Saint-Jérôme.

It also has a precious “Hide and Seek” game which introduces children to the observation of more than 60 animals and insects of the Laurentians.

I wanted to treat myself by creating this book: it is a journey to the land of my imagination, a graphic exploration in the service of my own text... In this children’s book, I can give free rein to the poetry and sensitivity that inhabits me while paying tribute to the heritage of my region. Isabelle Charbonneau

J'ai reçu le livre la veille de la fête de mon fiston! D'abord vous faites le livre qu'on cherche sans le trouver à la bibliothèque, ensuite il le reçoit à temps pour sa fête! Vous êtes magiques! Bonne et belle lecture avec l'image de la superbe locomotive! Que demander de plus!

Mignon et coloré, cet album entièrement fabriqué au Québec met en scène le P’tit train du nord, qui a roulé de 1876 à 1981. C’est aussi un précieux « cherche et trouve » qui initie les enfants à l’observation (autorisée, puisque sur papier !) de plus de 60 animaux et insectes des Laurentides. Très chouette pour préparer les balades qui viendront avec les beaux jours, quand le confinement sera derrière nous.

I was so delighted to receive this from @editionsdugrandelan and my littles fell in love with this little train and its animals... My littlest one is really into trains right now, so this arrived at a perfect time! A little local geography and history, some local flora and fauna, all while on a train adventure with fuzzy friends. If you delve deeper into the history, it’s an opportunity to talk about colonization with older littles too. And knowing the value of rhyming in early literacy development, this sweet and colourful book hits the mark there too. We just love it! Entirely made in Canada, add it to your library!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR, ISABELLE CHARBONNEAU

Isabelle has been an illustrator and author of children’s books for over 20 years. Over time and with her training as a graphic designer, she naturally took the responsibility of coordinating the publishing projects of her clientele, accompanying them in the process of producing a book, from the idea to the release, from the book to the printer. It is with the assurance of her years of experience that she launches out this time in the production of her own book.
